First Minute Of A New Day was the first album that Gil and Brian recorded with the fantastic Midnight Band their power is well illustrated on 'Liberation Song' where Gil and Victor Brown interchange vocals over a barnstorming groove. 'Winter In America' is one of Gil's most celebrated and memorable songs, lyrically thought provoking. 'Western Sunrise' is another powerful track, showing the jazzier side of their music. The album is a mixture of Soul, Jazz and other influences sometimes powerful; mellow at others, but always compelling, with great lyrics. Remastered from the original tapes this CD sounds incredible.

Liberation Song (Red, Black And Green)"I've seen the red sun in the autumnAnd I've seen the leaves turn to golden brownI've seen the red sun in the autumnAnd I've seen the leaves returning to golden brownI've seen the red blood of my peopleHeard them calling for freedom everywhereIf you've seen the red blood of your peopleAll you've got to do itReach out your hand and we'll take you thereRed stands for liberationRedI see the blackness of winterI see death lurking in the treesYeah, I see the blackness of winterAnd I see death lurking in the treesI see the blackness of my peopleYou know they're calling for freedom everywhereI've seen the blackness of my peopleAnd all you got to do,Brothers and sisters, reach out your hands,We're gonna take you thereBlack stands for liberation, yeah, aahI've seen the green buds in the springtimeAnd somebody told me that means new lifeI've seen the green buds in the springtimeComin' up through the concreteSomebody told me they symbolize new lifeI've seen the green fields of my homelandAnd I've heard people calling for freedom everywhereIt seems to me like if you've seen the green fields of your homelandEven when you dream it, you can reach out your mindAnd someone will take you there, causeGreen stands for liberationGreenThere are three colors on our flag now, brotherOne red, one black, and there's one greenThere are three colors on our flag now, sisterCan you tell your babies what they mean?I'm talking ‘bout red and the black and greenWant you to keep on thinking ‘bout red and the black and greenI'm gonna keep on singin' ‘bout red and the black and greenAnd sooner than you think the whole world's gonna know just what we meanWhen we say they stand for liberationThey stand for liberationTalkin' bout redYes, and blackWe're talkin' bout greenIt's more than a dream if you dig what we meanIt stands for liberationIt stands for a brand new nationIt stands for liberationIt stands for a brand new nationYeah
