Here's the original version of the song "A Room Full Of Roses" sung by George Morgan back in 1949 which was 25 years before this song became a big hit for Mickey Gilley in 1974. Hope y'all enjoy this old song.

From the technique and tone, I want to say that the steeler on this recording sounds very much like Jerry Byrd, who was doing quite a bit of studio work at that time. Some may say it is Little Roy Wiggins, but at this time he was working for Eddy Arnold, both in studio and on the road.

actuall the sons of the pioneers may have done this song first, for it was written by tim spence, a member of that grop before George morgan. a pop version was done by Sammy kaye.

Great song, great version. And every bit as good was the interpretations by the Sons of the Pioneers and Marty Robbins. Thanks for a great post!

I think it would be more correct to state that this song was written by Tim Spencer and recorded first by George Morgan... But thank you very much for this rare recording. Excellent country-style performance... Completely different with Mickey Gilley's one and even more intriguing due to this...

My understanding is that WSM spent a lot of money to correct George's eye which at one point was crossed.
