Here's some cool footage I acquired of George Jones with a KILLER band: Johnny Paycheck on bass, Charlie Justice on fiddle, Jack Watkins on guitar, Sonny Curtis on steel, and Arnie Adams on drums.

Thanks Amber, I'm a huge Johnny and George fan, and so this is just phenomenal. And why Johnny still isn't in the CMHF is just a shame and a crime.

I think Paycheck influenced the vowel holding sound that Jones is famous for. Jones doesn't have that sound in earlier recordings.

Jack Watkins (guitar) was married to Connie Smith for about a year... not sure if they were hitched yet when this was broadcast.

This is music. Holy crap, I've watched it so may times, but keep coming back. Freaking harmony like it should be before Rock-n-Roll screwed up them ol' high harmonies!!!!

this is the best george jones footage I've seen yet ! Holy moses, impeccable guitar solo so understated and masterful...johnny paycheck trying as hard as he can to put a lid on his squirrelly enthusiasm, george's effortless singing. Best of all, the way they staged the dancers and the TV host is such a window into a different era of entertainment. Paycheck is perfect back up singer for Jones ! Wish I could see this crew really cut loose after hours... sigh.
