George Harrison's fifth solo album release.

Personnel :

George - Vocals, guitar

Ringo - Drums

Klaus Voorman - Bass

Nicky Hopkins - Keyboards

Gary Wright - Keyboards

Jim Keltner - Drums

Jim Gordon - Drums (Try Some, Buy Some)

Jim Horn - Saxophone, flutes

Zakir Hussein - Tabla

John Barham - Strings

Recording sessions for most of the tracks were from October 1972 through to January 1973 at the Apple Studios in Saville Row, although the backing track for "Try Some, Buy Some" was done two years earlier !

The album did very well for George in the U.K. album charts where it reached number 2. It was kept off the top slot by the original soundtrack album to the film "That'll Be The Day" ... which ... has Ringo as one of it's stars !

The very glossy gatefold cover, also included some colourful and full packaging.

The front cover photography was by Kendall L. Johnson, with the picture inside the gatefold being by Ken Marcus.

The right-hand on the front cover is holding (what looks like to me) an Indian scene, whereas the left-hand is clearly holding money. A U.S. dollar at the top.

If you could see my messed up inner gatefold cover shot above, you`d see that George is hosting an expensive lunch on the lawns of his Henley-on-Thames home. He is raising a glass to the musicians who are seated left to right, Gary Wright, Jim Horn, Klaus Voorman, Nicky Hopkins, Jim Keltner and Ringo.

Talking of the cover and Jim Keltner, there is also an odd addition on the back, where Jim's name is printed in-between what definately looks like the "Wings" set of wings, and says : Jim Keltner fan club - For all information send a stamped undressed elephant to 5112, Hollywood Boulevard, Hollywood, California.

You are both crazy. This key is perfect for George's voice and being such a perfectionist, I'm sure this song came out exactly as he intended it to.

George was an awesome songwriter and could have had a smashing post-Beatles career if he had taken professional advice for his albums, instead of doing it all by himself. External producers are important. Think of George Martin! Yes, George did a few ill-advised choices that damaged his career. The recording of Dark Horse and touring in those conditions proved to be fatal, notwithstanding his amazing talent.

His voice dropped a few tones after the Beatles, as he said (see his presentation of "You" on Extra Texture available on youtube. I daresay it just got weaker because of his excesses in the period 70-74...a shame really.

True, this song like "Who can see it" is wonderful, but not meant for his vocal range who had lowered a few tones after the Beatles - as he said himself. It should've been sung by one such as Freddie Mercury. Great songwriters such as George, in these cases give their songs away not to spoil the piece.

This song is like a poetry... All my life and things pass on my mind!

Actually, George did most of the middle harmonies. John usually did the lower and Paul did the highest ones. There are a few instances where George did do the high harmonies, but it was rare. That being said, George had a very beautiful and sort of effortless higher register that he used very effectively.

Definitely has always been my favorite song from Living in the Material World. It gives me goosebumps, as do many more of his songs! Oh, George, if only you could Be Here Now...

Well, you're both right technically. Living In The Material World was his second *proper* studio album after ATMP, but could also be counted as his third since the Concert For Bangladesh was between both releases. "That Is All"

There are some of us singers that need to be in the upper range. Singing lower does not bring out our natural voices. George could not sing low, well, and in the Beatles, he did all of the really high three part stuff.

Great song..but why didn't he lower the key like the Andy Williams version?
