On August 1, 1971, George Harrison and Ravi Shankar staged two concerts at New York's Madison Square Garden that brought together a star-studded cast of musicians to alert the world to the plight of the Bangladeshi people, victims of simultaneous floods, famine and civil war. The Concert for Bangladesh, which supported UNICEF's programs in the country was the first benefit concert of its kind. 

Greorge Harrison earned the love and respect from 3 generations. His global impact with strong lyricks and beautiful music was greater that ANY other artist! But his effort to help totally unknown and suffering people of East Pakistan - now Bangla Desh - have been a milestone for music, artists and humanity. He preached Love, Peace and Understanding and LIVED the way like no other.

The movie came out soon after the concert so we on the west coast could see it. We loudly applaud George, Ravi, Billy, Leon, they were brilliant, Geo and Ravi for getting this together, the others who contributed - Leon and Geo our favourites - Here's the thing - the concert made only $1,000,000. How much money could have been given to the starving and dying in Bang. just by Dylan and Clapton kicking in one month of their habits, 1/10 of their yearly income -- We're not impressed with Clapton or Dylan - we are of Leon, Ravi, Billy, George. Word was, still is, that Dylan would only show up if he had a min. song set. Idolizing people is always dangerous and wrong. That's why Geo. was so laid back and quiet, and why he was our favourite - what he did, he did to help, not to impress and show the world - LOOK AT ME! like others.A quality which is HUGELY lacking in every generation under the age of 55 now. So having said all that, this concert is my favourite because it was the FIRST to bring worldwide awareness to a catastrophic human situation that most people would not have given a darn about had it not been for George and Ravi. Well done, Gentlemen. God bless you both.
