The Art of Dying

There'll come a time

When all of us must leave here

There's nothing Sister Mary can do

Will keep me here with you

As nothing in this life that I've been trying

Can equal or surpass the art of dying

Do you believe me?

There'll come a time

When all of your hopes are fading

When things that seemed so very plain

Become an awful pain

Searching for the truth among the lying

And answered when you've learned

The art of dying

But if you want it, you must find it

But when you have it, there'll be no need for it

There'll come a time

When most of us return here

Brought back by our desire to be

A perfect entity

Living through a million years of crying

Until you've realized the art of dying

Do you believe me?

Songfacts:

All Things Must Pass is a triple album by George Harrison recorded and released after the break-up of The Beatles. The first triple album by a solo artist

Harrison wrote the lyrics while he was still a Beatle, which was at the beginning of his lifelong spiritual journey.

Harrison followed Eastern religion and philosophies. One of those was reincarnation, which is described in the song's lyrics.

After a long battle with cancer, Harrison died on November 29, 2001. He was not afraid of death, as he believed it would take him to a better place.

Future Genesis drummer/singer Phil Collins played congas on this song. As a kid, Collins was an extra in the Beatles movie A Hard Day's Night. Collins was not credited on the original album, but is thanked in the liner notes when the album was reissued in 2000.

Well...this has now become my current favourite song. Give it a few more listens and I'll remove the "current" from that statement.

George lived a was a good person, esp considering all the stuff thrown at him. He chose to live a realtivly simple life. He refurb an old convent or whatever it was and God knows what else. The man was had a following like no other, other than the other three beatles. It was all inclusive-worldwide admiration.

george was an awake soul... happy to tend his garden than be swarmed by admiring fans. If a beatle can tell you fame aint all that... you gotta pity these desperate muppets on xfactor.

@306ness - the band behind George on this track is Derek and the Dominos, minus Dwayne Allman. Check out Claptons "Derek and the Dominoes" album, and you may find this sound there. It wont sound exactly the same because Georges record is produced by Phil Spector, which gives it that huge echo sound. And of course, George doesnt write or sing anything on Claptons record. But as to why a few of the tracks on All Things Must Pass have a heavier sound, those are the ones w/ Claptons band.
