When guitar legend George Barnes died on 5 September 1977, at the comparatively young age of 56, he was creating his next guitar method, material he developed in the private master classes he'd been teaching for almost two years in Northern California.

Several hours before he died, he recorded the last piece for his masters series of chord solos -- Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein's "All the Things You Are." These are his last notes, recorded for every guitarist who strives for musical excellence.

This video homage features photos of George and his beautiful wife Evelyn, who was his biggest fan and most devoted partner.

What a moving fact that this beautiful piece of music was recorded the same day of his much too early passing. Since discovering George´s music he would turn out to be one of my biggest influences on guitar. I´m so happy to have got George´s and Carl Kress´s Music Minus One CD and sheets for Christmas and am now able to jam with my hero.

George Barnes was a Guitar Player's Guitarist. He made a good living playing Guitar from the time he was a teenager, backing singers with his Guitar. He is remember most by other guitar players, and by the People who knew who the best guitar players were. He influenced many Guitarist in his life time. I personally knew his Brother Harry Barnes who was a great musician and guitar teacher, in Panama City Florida for much of his life.

Superb! Thank you for sharing, Alexandra. Has this track been issued on CD? I don't recall hearing it before, and I have most of George's albums.

Thanks so much for posting this. I just started taking jazz guitar lessons with Frank Vignola and I'm learning this song now. It's great to hear your dad's version. I'm just discovering his music now, and I really love what I have heard. By the way, Frank is good friends with Bucky Pizzarelli. I know Bucky and your dad played together, so it's really cool to feel that I'm only a few degrees of separation from the great George Barnes.

I'm so glad to have recently discovered your channel. This recording of one of jazz and popular music's finest tunes serves as a triumphant ending to the shining career of an innovative, influential and virtuosic guitarist. A very touching video, in which your mom's love and high regard for your dad is highly evident.
