Bartlett even took the penniless Brumley (then 21) into his own home and entered him without tuition into his (Bartlett's) Hartford (MO) Musical Institute where Brumley received his musical education. In 1939, Bartlett composed his last song "Victory in Jesus" shortly after suffering a disabling stroke.
