I absolutely adored this film when it first came out, and even now, almost 40 years later, it's still my all-time favourite. So full of innocent hope and wonder. I managed to track down many versions of this theme (being an avid record collector, with a job in central London that put me within a stone's throw of many major record stores and second hand places, too), but it was this splendid sparkling version that stood way above all the rest, and I wore that disc almost to transparency! One of the comments below mentions the prospect of a remake of the CE3K movie - absolutely NO! NO! NO! That must NEVER happen! It's utterly perfect as it is - why try to improve on perfection? I do not want my cherished memories trashed by a cheap ca$h-in remake, however much new and snazzy technology they have to throw at it. If it ain't broke... and it most certainly AIN'T!! I don't need it fixin', and nor does anybody else!I was living with a crowd of Australians in a big house in SW London, when both this and Star Wars arrived on the screens within a few weeks of each other. Being a big sci-fi fan, I wanted to see both - but Star Wars left me cold. I should have been forewarned by the title alone, really - I came away feeling that it was basically just cowboys in space. Not what I felt the peaceful exploration of space should be all about.But then we all went en masse to see CE3K, and I can honestly say I've never been so stunned in all my life. It was also the only time I'd ever known the loud, rambunctious Aussies so quiet and attentive. But the one thing that left the greatest impression on me, was that it was the only time I'd ever been to see a film where, as the end credits rolled up the screen, not a single person got up to leave. And as the final notes and images faded, the entire audience stood up and applauded rapturously!In the words of the Beatles... LET IT BE!
