This is not love

This is not even worth a point of view

In Echo Park, I

Pause for effect and whisper 'who are you?'

They crawl out of their holes for me

And I die: You die

Hear them laugh, watch them turn on me

And I die: You die

See my scars, they call me such things

Tear me, tear me, tear me

Now I have your names

Screaming 'you will suffer' and 'you're all too late'

Now I feel young

Does everything stop when the old dame fails?

They crawl out of their holes for me

And I die: You die

Hear them laugh, watch them turn on me

And I die: You die

See my scars, they call me such things

Tear me, tear me, tear me

But I'm still frightened by the telephone

This was the first Gary Numan concert i went to, I was stuck for words. His stage shows were the best. There was the Fury Tour the following year, I missed the one after then I saw the Skin Mechanic In. But i think the most talked about show were his farewell concerts the Telekton tours seeing those panels were amazing.

And I have an issue with this song. I own original version of Telekon on vynil. All versions going forward lack the razor blast on guitar? My ears do not lie.

If Gary Numan claimed that he couldn't sing, he was, of course, correct. But that wasn't the point, it would be like claiming he wasn't a classical pianist either, or a good whistler. What he did with his voice was much more critical and pointed than simply "singing", and imbued his work with another, entirely unique, dimension. Thank you, Mr. Numan, for having the genius and the seriousness not to settle for mere singing in your exquisite music.

Slight mix up with the lyrics ;) - "Does everything stop when the old dame fails?" should be "Does everything stop when the old tape fails?" or "Does everything stop when the old man fails?" (depending on which version of the lyrics you are reading from!) Other than that - great song. I remember buying the single back in '80 - cool cover, complete with parts from his mum's vacuum cleaner (the steel tube)!

I love the wry grin at the end that say's "You've been served by the music master!"

For a man who says he can't sing. Gary Numan you are humble and you CAN sing! and live too. Thank you for posting.
