Gallagher & Lyle - Breakaway 1976

I watch the distant lights go down the runway

disappear into the evening sky.

Oh you know I'm with you on your journey

Never could say goodbye.

And you will waken in another country

greet the morning under foreign skies.

Leaving me to face another Monday

it's not easy to get by.

It's not the place you're going to.

It's just a phase you're going through.

Though I won't stop you I don't want

to breakaway.

Fly across your ocean, breakaway

Time has come for you breakaway

Fly across your ocean, breakaway

Time has come

And now you travel on your own opinion,

leave your fears and doubts to fade away

Dust your dreams and take them on your journey,

Spread your wings and fly away

(Instrumental)

It's not the sun you're tryin to find

Something else is on your mind

You need a little space and time

to breakaway

It's not the place you're going to.

It's just a phase you're going through.

Though I won't stop you I don't want

to breakaway.

Fly across your ocean, breakaway

Time has come for you breakaway

Fly across your ocean, breakaway

Time has come for you

Sweet, sweet music. Amid al the claptrap of Queen etc. there was this sanity. Best song of 1976.

I love this beautiful song, straight back to the 70s every time I listen to it. Thank you G&L.

What kind of monster gives this a thumbs down? It's lovely. If you don't dig it, baby, I'll tell you what you can do with that thumb of yours.

The Voyager documentary was made by the Irish film board in collaboration with BBC, PBS, ARTE and others. I was a 70s kid obsessed with all things space. This song played on the radio among others when I was reading my space encyclopedia, aged 6.

I see the voyager documentary brought others to this song. Public broadcasting has turned me onto the weird to the sublime in music. Only thing npr is good for.

I just realised it's "fly across your ocean". I used to think it said "fly across to Russia".

Dear sirs, I have always loved this song. And a few months ago, when NOVA featured in it in a program about Voyager leaving the orbit of our plant Earth - - - I was blown away!
