I don't think he picked at it that much, I kinda thought the same first listen. Maybe a little mclusky mixed in with the singing but the rhythm sounds white spripe-ey, and the chords sound death from above-ey.

Dude White Stripes super Bluesy, there's nothing bluesy about this, Death From Above 1979 are a super thrash rock dance oriented sound. These guys take a very broken disjointed approach to their music, if you listen carefully they very rarely play things the same way, for example even their chorus has constant minor variations. Lyrics are also insanely intelligent. Yes Death From Above 1979 and The White Stripes are fantastic (two of my favourites) but no they do not sound ANYTHING like FOTL.
