I never liked Float until I saw them perform a good chunk of it on tour. It really put the old stuff to shame. It just made the old stuff sound flat somehow. They're still awesome, like musical comfort food but Float definitely sets itself apart for me

Very true about them being unable to suck. Though Float and Speed of Darkness are their least ass-kicking albums. And, seriously, if you take out that one song from Drunken Lullabies (I think it's called Cruel Mistress) every song on that album is fantastic.

@Uxhenik Dave's lyrics will always be great. The music to some of the songs just sounds really awkward. Particularly on "Powers Out" and "Punch Drunk Grinning Soul". It sounds like they went out of their way to sound weird, rather than something natural. Maybe it's just me, but the music in the last two albums reeks of pretentiousness. You never got that with the three records before this. They were fun, and still had Dave's amazing lyrics.

@domotime2 Matter of personal preference I suppose. Maybe it wasn't GREAT like the other two from this album I liked. Something about that fiddle during the chorus moves me. I never liked "Float" at all. I'm cool with them doing slower songs in the past, I love "Son Never Shines" and "Don't Let Me Die Still Wondering", but "Float" is a snoozer. As is most of the stuff on the past two records, unfortunately.

all the albums are fantastic, ranking them is really hard #1 is either DLullabies or within mile, but after that it's hard to rank. Speed of darkness, although their slowest album, is by far their most beautiful work.... Float was just short......and swagger is the basis of the entire bands existence. Hard working, fun, really wonderful people that deserve all the success they've achieved

@TrojanChris1990 Between a Man and a woman? really? I'm a die hard flogging molly fan, probably my #1 favorite band...and even I can admit between a man and a woman is the biggest filler song they ever wrote. Float, self-titled song, is such a beauitufl song

I really don't see why everyone's saying that Float and Speed of Darkness are their worst albums. I personally think they're Flogging Molly's best albums yet! And besides, Flogging Molly has an ailment that prevents it from sucking.

This, "Between a Man and a Woman", and "Us of Lesser Gods" were the only good songs on this album. But DAMN were they great. These three make Float actually worth owning in my eyes.
