jafarred, I've tried to translate this Bavarian pearl of a song into English - as far as this is possible at all ... have fun!1.(Bavarian:)Girl, you should be cleverAnd take a guy who makes you happyLet the small oneBe leaning at the pigpen door (High German:Almost the same, but the combination of words sounds very different, and funny, in High German compared to Bavarian. And for „pigpen door“ in Bavarian Fredl uses „pigroom door“ in High German.) 2.(Bavarian:)In front of the dairymaid’s hutA sad guy is standingShe's locked the roomAnd he can’t get in (High German:)In front of the dairymaid’s appartement (Fredl spells this word in a very unusual way)A boy is begging wailingly (Fredl uses an old word for „boy“)„Let me in, don’t be that evilBeautiful cow bosom masseuse“ 3.(Bavarian:)And Matt was drunkWhen climbing through his girl’s window at nightHe confounded the roomsAnd woke up in the cowshed (High German:)Matthew was tipsyWith the ladder raiding patrol at night (the word does not exist in German, either)But he made a mistake with the floorAnd slept in the cattle garage 4.(Bavarian:)And the sister-in-law from the alpFell into the cesspoolWhen she crawled out of itHer face was full of shit (High German:)And the dairymaid from the alpFell into the cesspoolWhen having crested the shoreShe had taken on suntan

It's nether bavarian (there's a difference to higher bavarian dialect, though most outsiders won't know it), and the actual fun lies in the rather high-strung translation, as opposed to the casual flair of the dialect. as Fredl Fesl puts it in another song: yodeling is a bavarian embellishment, it's tradition. it enhances the 'bavarian' flair of the song. Therefor translating the yodel with "holeri tüdelü-hütü" is just another way to poke fun at... everything.a full translation of the song into english would be difficult and probably only make sense if the bavarian was translated to typical scottish, and the high german to perfect oxford english.

The German part is in high German and so can be understood by any German

That's Austrian, not Bavarian nor Swiss....and the yodel part has no meaning

That's impossible! Think you have to be a bavarian to understand :-)
