Have you seen the well-to-do

Up and down Park Avenue

On that famous thoroughfare

With their noses in the air

High hats and narrow collars

White spats and lots of dollars

Spending every dime

For a wonderful time

Now, if you're blue

And you don't know where to go to

Why don't you go where fashion sits

Puttin' on the Ritz

Different types who wear a daycoat

Pants with stripes and cutaway coat

Perfect fits

Puttin' on the Ritz

Dressed up like a million dollar trooper

Trying hard to look like Gary Cooper

Super-duper

Come, let's mix where Rockefellers

Walk with sticks or "umberellas"

In their mitts

Puttin' on the Ritz

Tips his hat just like an English chappie

To a lady with a wealthy pappy

Very snappy

You'll declare it's simply topping

To be there and hear them swapping

Smart tidbits

Puttin' on the Ritz

I love Oldman but he doesn't cut it as Churchill. He doesn't ahve the posture.

I think this is the version he recorded in 1930.

I vastly prefer the original because it's not censored.

The original was a parody ridiculing African Americans for trying to pretend to be at a social station above their lowly place. It was often sung by white singers in blackface doing minstrel shows. The later Fred Astaire version was rewritten sanitized to appeal to people impacted by the great depression and ridicules wealthy people for squandering for entertainment, resources that could be put to better use. I prefer the later version.
