Charted #17 in 1955 This song was one of my favorites but was over shadowed by the Mary Ford version. Columbia never even put the recording on any of their albums so it never made it on a U.S. CD. It was a very hard song to find for many years. In the last several years CD's made in Europe have

included this overlooked song that should have been treated better.

I though I had that song on YT, I looked an didn't find it so I'll put it on soon. I have so many of Frankie's records on here that it's hard to remember them all. Keep Looking for it.

the B-side to "My little one" - also meant for my one and only love of 1961 - remember dear Joan ? right by your coffee-bar in Spain - when love was not to be topped by anyone ? Please remember !

I heard most of Frankie*s records on a Chip Shop Juke Box (just left school). But I had a Cousin who had a record player and she was a Frankie Laine Fan. Used to baby sit for her and I had a smashing time playing the 78s,they were Jazz Fans but they had a few Johnny Ray and Frankie top Twenty Tracks.

@TheLang0lier I agree, this has always, since 1955, is my favorided Frankie Laine song. Back when I was growing up in Ohio, this version was played on the radio over Mary Fords version. Frankie's version of 16 Tons was a big hit in England but it never had a chance here as it was never sold in the States. I guess it was because Ford's version was a big hit before Frankie recorded it so I guess the big minds at Columbia didn't want to combete for ratings.

@markalson1938 Well if this song is not number 1 I do not know which one should be. But people keep to amaze me with what they put as number 1. Great example is 16 tons Frakie's version is the best but they made Ford's version number 1 on the charts.

@markalson1938 This was the only version I knew of back in the 50s. I never knew Les Paul and Mary Ford sang it. I wasn't a big fan of them.

Sadly my mom lived her life by this song and learned to play and sing it in her 70s.. it will always stay with me as it did when she reflected on her life

My dad got me into frankie laine when I was little, now I don't live at home it drives my fiance nuts. I remember naïvely thinking that this song was actually about hummingbirds...

@DrCostas45 This song has always been hard to find. For some reason Columbia did not do anything with it after it was put out in 1955 where it reached #17 on the charts. It was never put on a LP so It has not been on a CD either. I started collecting records in 1957 and it took me 10 years to find a copy.

Thank you who- and wherever you are. I've been looking for this song since I last heard it in Athens, Greece when I was in high school. For all intents and purposes the Les Paul/Mary Ford edition didn't even make it over there, but was happy to find it here over a decade ago. Finally, in a European CD an older Frankie Laine repeated it, but it just didn't cut it like this one did back then, when American Music was the best proof of America's greatness. Thanks again!

@ootooshohnuh This was one of my all time favorite Frankie Laine songs even though it did not sell as well as some of his more famous numbers.
