Frankie Laine with the hit song "Cry of the Wild Goose"!

Frankie Laine, born Francesco Paolo LoVecchio (March 30, 1913 February 6, 2007) was a successful American singer, songwriter and actor whose career spanned 75 years, from his first concerts in 1930 with a marathon dance company to his final performance of "That's My Desire" in 2005.

Often billed as America's Number One Song Stylist, his other nicknames include Mr. Rhythm, Old Leather Lungs, and Mr Steel Tonsils.

His hits included "That's My Desire", "That Lucky Old Sun", "Mule Train", "Cry of the Wild Goose", "Jezebel", "High Noon", "I Believe", "Hey Joe!", "The Kid's Last Fight", "Cool Water", "Moonlight Gambler", "Love is a Golden Ring", "Rawhide", and "Lord, You Gave Me a Mountain".

He sang well-known theme songs for many movie Western soundtracks including 3:10 To Yuma, Gunfight at the O.K. Corral, and Blazing Saddles, although he was not a country & western singer. He was a singer's singer who sang an eclectic variety of song styles and genres, stretching from big band crooning to pop to western-themed songs to gospel, to rock, to folk, to jazz and blues, all bent around his inimitable singing style. He did not sing the soundtrack song for High Noon, which was sung by Tex Ritter, but his own version was the one that became a hit.

@Thehammerider By the way, Germany had television as early as 1936. The Olympic Games in Berlin were broadcast by Reich TV.

I wonder where this recording is from. It's not the original Mercury single or the "Hell for Leather" Columbia version. Frankie's more informal vocal inflections suggest this is a later recording.

I thought it over and sisn't want to leave you scratching your head, asking yourself, where is Granville St. It happens to be a major street running north south thru downtown Vancouver Canada. About that wild goose, no we ain't got any...wild swans either. Sparrows, starlings, sea-gulls and crows...yes alot of crows fly amongst us living in the city. Thanks again.

This brings back memories...I didn'y really grow up listening to this hit song, but I must of heard it once when I was preteen. Therewas this bi record sale at Glen's music on Granville St. it was 1968 I believe when I went this record shop and saw a massive display of 78's for a dime each, interesting too it appeared they had once belonged to CKWX radio, which went on to R&R before going country. Anyway I saw this one..and picked up on it along with The Jones Boy & Bimbo & 20 more. thx
