I study African history, the info is already out there. The studies have been done, and more are still ongoing. I recently donated to an upcoming doc by Dr. Moreno Vega about African spirituality in PR. Music/dance are the most obvious influences of Africa and are well known. Even in countries that barely had any Africans, like Argentina, the Africans still left their mark where they brought the Tango. Again, stating the facts about the Afro roots is not a diss to Tainos or other indigenous ppls

I'm not stating my beliefs I'm stating facts. I never said that the Tainos didn't have their own music and culture. All I stated was that Salsa was primarily African....that's a fact. Everyone knows this, it's heavily documented and the evidence is plain as day. Also, Afro-Cubans have maybe the strongest connection with their African ancestry in Latin America and they will tell you exactly where their cultural elements originated. But don't believe a word I say, look it up for yourself

What you're doing is called ethnic bandwagoning, my friend. It's only purpose is to polarize. It's actually insulting to those with respect and connection to Tainos, Arawaks and others. Before crediting Africans, a better study should be done. You might surprised at what you discover. Christianity destroyed a civilizations of Natives and that included music.

No one has beef with anything, papa. What you're doing is force feeding your beliefs by aggressively stating what a few select entertainers believe. Fact of the matter is Native culture may have been destroyed, but the Arawaks and Tainos had their musical culture n the island before and after the Africans. And since both groups arrived from South America, it's safe to presume their culture also fed the Cubans.

come on bro...look at songs like Congo Bongo, Che Che Cole, El hijo de Obatala etc...its clear the music (and other cultural elements) has it's origins with Africans. Many old school Salsa artists will tell you so in their music. Also I'm not saying this is you but I realize a lot of Latinos have an issue dealing with having African heritage in their blood and/or culture, or they might have beef with black Americans or Haitians etc...so they don't really want to fuck with it. But truth is truth

My point was that, in Latin culture of the Caribbean the African influence is prominent and the Africans are always discredited. That's not to knock the contribution of the Tainos....but with the exception of Puerto Rico the Tainos were mostly wiped out unfortunately. In Hispaniola, Jamaica, Cuba, etc the Tainos were almost totally gone. The culture that took precedence was that of the Africans. The culture of Afro-Cubans heavily influenced other Latin nations also, and they originated Salsa.

The explanation for use of African words is African slaves were kept with Indian slaves. They shared language with the Europeans in all likelihood. Obviously, the native tongue of the Tainos and Arawaks wasn't assimilated. That's the story of the Caribbean. The fact of the matter is Tainos and Arawaks had their own culture. To discredit the natives is a slap to all Latinos, beginning with Puerto Ricans. All of the native Indians on this side of the world had their history destroyed by Europeans

This is typical of the Americanized Latino believing shit written by European writers. Dude, wake up. The Tainos and Arawaks were banging musical instruments. The notion that African slaves taught salsa to the Indians is the most LAUGHABLE theory ever spun on all Latinos who listen to Salsa. Instead of spreading false lessons, why don't go study Taino/Arawak culture and learn what the Spaniards almost totally destroyed. musicofpuertorico.c o m /en/history_to1600.html

LOL....wtf ? the drums come from Africa, why do you think they're called "Congas" ? Salsa is African music, it's based on African rhythms. People of West African descent are gifted musically. Almost all of the music and dances of the Americas come from the African slaves and/or their descendants. Whether you're talking about Salsa, Reggae, Jazz, Hip Hop, Merengue, or whatever. Stop hating the African influence, Caribbean Latinos get their swag from their African ancestry, even tho some hate it

Much of what is considered "Latin Culture" is just a mixture of the cultures of the different African nations brought there during slavery, particularly in Brazil and the Carib. A lot of ppl don't want to accept that, cuz they have been taught by their enslavers to look down on their African ancestry. Ex most words that end in mba, mbe, mbe, or ngo are African in origin. Words like Mambo, Bembe, Rumba, etc are African. Even the Mexican "La Bamba" came from the small amount of Africans in Mexico.
