Hey Bev, glad you liked it. As noted in my remarks, this was the flip side of "A Perfect Love", which hit #47 on the Billboard charts in 1960. I like this one better though, don't you? Thanks for visiting my channel.

OMG! I did a search for this song about a year or more ago and came up with nothing. I was 10 years old when I listened to this over and over again. I think it was "side 2" on a 45 rpm record of a more popular Frankie Avalon song on side 1. Thanks so much for putting this on Youtube!

Holy Guacamole! I told people about this song on Captain Kangaroo and they would shake their heads and look at me with a patronizing smile. I remember the dreamlike recitation of the names "My name Pancho, my name Pedro...." but try googling just that much - no leads until today. I also remember a song with cats with their arms around each other singing "Meow meow meow meow...Meow meow meow." Don't think I'll get anywhere with those lyrics. Karen - age 53

I was searching for this for my own grandchild who loves puppets. I haven't heard it since I was 5. I'm 45 now and never forgot it.

As jbug583 said, I've had this song in mind ever since I heard it as a child on Captain Kangaroo. I loved it so much then that I even picked out the melody on our family's old chord organ, when I was a lil kid, and could play it by ear to this day. Thank you for the memories that evoked sweet tears of remembrance.

I wish someone knew the exact Captain Kangaroo show that featured this song with the puppets. I had kept this song in my mind ever since I heard this as a yong kid. I'm the type of person who always remember sweet/sad songs like this. They should bring this back every holiday season. God Bless & Keep.

This song was covered in the UK by none other than Hughie Green.

@BrittainSE ME, TOO! I remembered this from "Captain Kangaroo" and had no idea where to find it. It was the sweetest, most mysterious song...hearing it again brought tears to my eyes. Thanks, oldiesrnow...

I TOTALLY remember this from Captain Kangaroo - the Puppet Maker was Mr. Green Jeans (in costume) and the puppets did dance around the puppet maker's shop. I looked for this for several years - not knowing the name but just remembering some key words. Thanks for posting!

I am pretty sure that there was an animated video that featured this song. Someone mentioned Captain Kangaroo and that had to be it. Without the internet, I would never had a chance to hear this song again. See my post below. Singinjohnny, we are 1 year apart in age.

I too would mention this song (there is a video somewhere too) to others but no one remembered. I only heard it once when I was eight years old but it stuck like glue. I've been playing it in my heard since1960. I didn't remember all the words so I had created some of my own. I started it out like this. "Listen to a tale, happened long ago. In a woodsman house the ground was filled with snow. Every single night before he laid to rest the old man heard his puppets sing and play."
