@TheGumboVariator Thanks very much...and thanks for subscribing. I made the backing track myself by editing the blank bars at the beginning of the solo on city of Tiny Lites on (I think) YCDTOSA Vol. 5. I used Wavelab for the editing - I just copied the opening blank bars and looped them. I hope that makes sense.

Awesome , man ! loved the way you throw some notes out of the dorian scale here and there ! Where did you get the backing track ?

@llawfhionn Thanks very much - Zappa had one of the greatest guitar tones ever. I especially like his tone on Apostrophe (the track and the album) and his clean tone on Broadway the Hard Way.

Kevin, your study really shows! You are one of the few people who approach the FZ zone.

@lefthandpath314 Thanks. To be honest, I just sort of sat down & improvised this solo. I hadn't listened to it for a long time, but I just have and it's basically just a G minor blues scale with a major sixth thrown in (I suppose that's a G dorian mode?). Other than that, the "out" section, where I wander off this scale, are achieved by just dropping the scale up or down a semitone. I threw in a few Zappaesque phrases, too, like a passage full of low notes and a whole tone scale section.

Cool solo man. Clever way to make a backing track too. What was your approach to this solo..? What kind of scales were you using? What ideas did you have floating about? or did you just go in and improvise? Well anyway....i enjoyed it :)

As usual you have something that I think is so critical to capturing a certain era Zappa sound...the Reverb and Echo on this video clip is so fun and so similar that it's pure joy for us players and listeners to just jump into musical nirvana with you! CHEERS! rk
