Charted at #4 in Billboard in May 1954. This was the only hit for Weir. Original Billboard review (which is a review of both this version and the Henri Rene record): "This unusual and refreshing marching song, a big hit now in Europe and England, has a chance to break out here via these two recordings. The Weir ork version has much charm, and the Rene ork disk is also bright".

Also #8 for Henri René's Musette & Chorus in May 1954 and #12 in the UK for the Stargazers in April 1954.

Written by Frederick W. Moller and Antonio Ridge.

B-side is "From Your Lips".

I had this song on 78 record Used to play it quite often back in the 1950s. I remember it being an old fashioned camp song. Loved it.

Those of us who were born during World War Two and who were not yet teenagers in 1954, sang this gem of a song until we nearly wore the grooves off the 45 r.p.m. disc. The recording had everything: an upbeat theme, easy to remember lyrics, the beautiful tone of the soprano sax, and the perfect blend of choral voices to make us want to become "happy wanderers" ourselves.

There was a travel TV show on around 1964 that my dad use to watch and enjoy. This was the theme song. I think the show was called "The Happy Wanderer's". I miss you dad!
