I don't like the arrangement (Don Costa's?), especually the introductory vamp; but the vocal, alas, is the best available. Womack is good, but he makes a short story long. Hayes: you may like it or not. Carpenters: is the pop rendition, plain singing of the melodic line. I have to add though that this is not Bacharach's best song though it may have one of the best David's lyrics.
