The greatest Calaf in our time on stage easily. Recordings with some others ( especially Pav. and Jussi) also are fine but live he was the best Calaf on stage IMO. (JB did not sing the role)

I won't forget the day a listend Corelli first time (not long a go) . My mother ( a singer) was having an argue with a friend of hers about Carreras and Domingo. of corse the argue was not liding to any conclusion ( tipical with musicians ) So I desided to enter & teling that if we want to get anywere we need to make a comparision ( using TV & youtube) . So we start compering Carreras & Domingo with Pavarotti in dificult arias. After some time my mother told me that she want's me to chear this . I sed " Corelli? Who is Corelli ( with disespect ) ? Mother you are aware that we are comparing Titans? So mayby we should stay with them? Mother smilled... When I heard the first few notes... It was like ??????????????? Ok surprised (a si ben mio Di qella pira)After 20 seconds I thought this one has mayby the best middle register I have heard so full and incredibly strong .. so he surely will be weak wen he goes to the high notes. (I thought ... yeah sure...) He goes up and I'm like " hole shit" his woice actually became even stronger up. I was shocked ( it was the beginning) The aria cept forward and this guy was like f... Terminator he went on & on every single sound with such power & expresion that I thought ( like holly shit ) it was like inhuman how much can he keap this up. He not only continued but even incrased the power output until the superb final without any signs of weaknes or fatigue with no breks at all till the end. I was actually reased in opera in a famili of high skilled musicions . I always knew that opera was the moust demanding and highest in terms of evolution form of music. But as I did like to hear symphony and film music I valued opera but newer really was in to it never won my heart . Cause I like powerfull and strong music and opera always seemed more tecnical and liric to me never found the strenght that always speaked to me in other formes. That was till Corelli came.THAT WAS THE MOMENT I TRULLY LEARNED TO EMBRACE & LOVE OPERA. (thank you Mighty Franco for this gift You opened me to another world of music. )

I have to agree with many people here, I prefer to hear Corelli sing this version of Nessun Dorma. His voice has a depth and richness to it, and he sings with total self assurance.

Pavarotti made this aria famous but the role of Calaf was owned by Corelli. He possessed "tears in his voice" - the vocal feature that makes great Italian tenors conquer our hearts. There are not enough bravos for this great artist!!!

Corelli was a great tenor no question but I prefer Jussi Bjorling's slow version of this aria, quite fantastic and quite incredible the long phrases.

Well,he did own the role for a LONG time. Check the Met archives and others if there's a doubt. Pavarotti was a great"vocal" Calaf, but,Corelli had voice, body and looks.Too bad Birgit Nilsson didn't like him as a person(he wasn't crazy about her either) it would've been even better than it was.Still, excellent performances!!
