I spent three decades of my life working these festivals and such and when I think of bluegrass these glimpses are what I remember most. I didn't think much about it at the time but boy, am I ever a fortunate fellow to have been around people such as these and become friends with them. Nothing at all against what's going on these days because it's really great stuff, but those days will always be part of my life and in no small way part of who I am. Thanks for reminding me.

Once again, EldoNorte nails it with his comments. And the "Bluegrass Country Soul" film also had them rehearsing this song in front of their bus before walking to the stage. Yeah, "the walk" is as good as the rehearsal and stage performance portions. Were these guys cool at that time or what, esp. Emerson - Big E (as in tall) with the way he carried himself and his hair! Yeah, man. This is the real deal.

Very similar sound to the early Dillards. Can't be a bad thing!! :-)

The best version of this song is by Robin Macy on her Wild Sweet William CD. Robin was a former lead vocalist of the Dixie Chicks.

Had I ever been able to see up close and personal like this of the Country Gentleman, I'm sure I would have fainted away like a girl, I'd be so excited to see them.

musicians are plain folk. if they seem aloof before a performance, it's problably nerves or they are simply concentrating. well, that is my experience anyway.

Ever hear the Good Brothers of Canada do Fox on the Run? And too bad Matterhorn got cut off at the end of this vid. In the shape these guys were at this time (1971) they did the best job of this song.

A long walk to the stage. Imagine if you'd left your picks back at the bus? 'Oh darn' :) Love the Gentlemen! Thanks for this slice of history.

This cut with "The Country Gentlemen" walking into their own set is the undisputed highlight of Albert Ihde's movie "Bluegrass Country Soul", featuring the 1971 Camp Springs Labor Day Weekend Bluegrass Festival in Reidsville, NC, and epitomizes, what this music and its people are about! R.I.P. Charlie Waller and Carlton Haney!
