NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT INTENDED - (Rampart 664) Out of Los Angeles, this 1968 release is last of four singles issued by The Four Tempos on the Rampart label.
After graduating from high school in 1966, Milton Vincent Davis, Herman Bean, Al Foy, and Benny Reed moved from Houston, Texas to Hollywood in search of fame as recording stars. Eventually hooking up with Eddie Davis, owner of Faro Productions, the group signed with Rampart records. Their first release from April of 1967, 'Memories' b/w 'Shakedown at the Union Hall' got them some airplay. A second single, 'Come on Home' b/w 'Got to Have You (Can't Live Without You)' was a great dance floor double-sider but it failed to chart. The third single issued, 'This Is The Way I Feel' b/w 'I Had a Strange Dream' was also a non-charter but one that would grow in stature and collectability among soul collectors. The final single featured once again, 'Strange Dream' b/w 'Lonely Prisoner' which went nowhere fast,
Although The Four Tempos didn't garner much success when their records were first released, with the passage of time they have thankfully been rediscovered and given the appreciation deserved for their contribution to the West Coast East Side Sound.
