I'm speechless. Love both versions. This is so sweet. I love Chaka so much! And her cover of awesome. I just wish I understood the lyrics. I know thatMoses was placed in a basket and put in the bull Rushes. But I'd love more detail about the writers meaning.

I've heard you do this when Bette played the Masonic Temple in Detroit. Of course, I have known this song forever. Lana Marrano (Susan Kraus now) is my sister. All three versions (Rosie, Chaka, and the Harlettes) were really good.

Charlo your just as good as Chaka in your own 'Sweet' way !I heard THIS version 1st & it's like any Cover version the one you first hearis what you judge all others against.I love CK as a singer but this is just more 'haunting'. xx

Chaka came and saw us a the ROXY and fell in love with the song. We introduced her to David Lasley...and Arif loved the song...and wow...Dave's group ROSIE used to sing this and it was always a crowd favorite. So happy to be part of it's legacy. Thanks for posting and remembering! xo Charlo

Awesome post bro. This is why I love YouTube, finding long, lost great music, and finding other kindred spirits who love it as much as I do. I love Chaka's version too. This is something I miss in today's music- when 2 artists cover the same song, each bringing their own soul, talent & chops. 2 gems, worthy of gold. Those strings (2:28 on)...that guitar riff (4:12), and the piano, awesome. And of course the voices...need I say more (we've all spoken), this is da bomb!

Thank you for posting this. I saw them do this live during Bette's show at the Civic Opera House in Chicago back in the seventies. Pure bliss.

@16032453 wanted to add that motownboy also has an uploaded version of "Does Your Mama Know About Me" and it's the same version I have up. He also credits it to the album/the group Formerly of The Harlettes. I'm curious about Sharon's version you speak of...was it on a solo album she did?

@16032453 I have "Does Your Mama Know About Me" up on You Tube, as well, and got it off this exact same LP that I got this track "Roll Me Through The Rushes" from. Perhaps Sharon did another (alternate) version when she went solo, but since it appears on this album I can only assume it is a group effort.

@wally1435 Actually, "Does Your Mama Know About Me" is not a song by the Harlettes but a song by Sharon Redd after she went solo. Sharon Redd (RIP) was one of the Harlettes. A dear friend and wonderful person who is no longer with her but her music remains.
