"Foreplay/Long Time" was a song by the American rock band Boston, released on the band's eponymous debut album, and as their second single, on Epic Records in 1976. It combines an instrumental introduction, "Foreplay", to the main song "Long Time" featuring lead vocalist Brad Delp, generally played as one on the radio and listed as one track on the album. It peaked at No. 22 on the Billboard Hot 100 in February 1977. In an interview for the "Best Of Boston" CD, Tom Scholz, leader and producer of Boston, said that "Foreplay" was the first song he ever recorded, and he did this on a two-track machine in his basement. "Foreplay" is a progressive instrumental prelude, primarily consisting of rapid triplet arpeggios on Hammond M3 organ (contrary to popular belief, the song was not recorded on a B3, as Scholz had a limited budget at the time and was unable to afford one) with a bass part doubled by a clavinet, and drums, with lead guitar joining at the end. According to Scholz, the synthesizer-like swoops were not produced with synthesizers, but rather by scraping a pick along a string of a guitar. The debut album "Boston", released in July 1976, peaked at #3 on the Billboard 200, and has been certified as selling 17x platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. The album is the second best-selling debut album of all-time in the United States, after Guns N' Roses's "Appetite For Destruction". Boston is an American rock band from Boston, Massachusetts that achieved its most notable successes during the 1970s and 1980s. Centered on guitarist, keyboardist, songwriter, and producer Tom Scholz, the band is still a staple of classic rock radio playlists. They have sold over 31 million albums in the United States. Scholz did play all the instruments until they were to be signed and management wanted to see the band he then hired band members including Fran Sheehan who plays Bass on this track , Scholz would then go on to fire 3 of the band members shortly after , and was sued and lost.. he wanted ALL the credit! Scholz was the beginning if this band and he was also the end of it!! Greed is never good!! ~Freehan and other fired band members have played since then including the tribute show for Brad.. Fran sheehans Birthday was the 26th,. 3-26-1949
