Derek You are quite enjoyable! I get what you are saying, my good man, but there are things called artistic license - and open interpretation. May I ask if you are a father? I am. And yes, I believe you are, at the core, correct that the omniscient narrator has finally rediscovered the love of another, in the romantic sense. However, here is what happened to me 18 years ago when this song had been released.My first child, a daughter, was born in July 1997. As the doctor handed her to me for the very first time, this song immediately began to play over the speaker system in the delivery room. I know God was playing DJ once again. He does this all the time to me. The busy nurses even took notice and had a tear-felt moment.For me, I think that she represented a part of my heart that had sadly already gone cold in my young marriage. And it also tapped into a part of my heart that I had never known before. Yes, I was 'so blind' to not believe that something so sacred, so beautiful could happen to me. I 'had given up on the emotion' of believing that my heart could really know what true unconditional love really was. My beautiful little daughter looked right in my eyes as if she was listening to that moment in the lyrics, and I found a new kind of love. For the first time.That, my friend, is what this song will always mean to me. Derek, you are very perceptive, but don't ever be afraid to step outside the box. i don't get how posters relate this song to a child?it talks of knowing the person for a long time and not realizing you loved them, you can't possibly have known a baby that long.... you couldn't have been looking at a baby forever....you also don't say "and i wonder how i could have been so blind" when it comes to your baby either... you usually know when you are pregnant or not... and when you finjd out, you feel excitement or joy (sometimes scared i suppose), but i've never heard of any one make a realization about noticing their child lols -_- that is awkwardand you don't give up on an emotion.... and finally find love in a baby... that you didn't realize you could feel.. idk maybe a baby broke someones heart in the past but now a new baby made them realize they could love a baby again? that's just awkward...you don't see for the first time who a baby is, cause hell no one knows who a baby is not even the baby themself is... you don't really know who you are til you pass puberty, and even then it's foggy til your mid 20's at least really."all along this love was right in front of me" a love for a baby doesn't just float around til you notice it either... if that is how someone found out they loved their baby.. that is one effed up mother lolsi don't meant to sound like i'm sipping on haterade... but it's just awkward when ppl relate this song to anything but finding love in a person they knew for so long.... it's like if someone dedicated "i'll make love to you by boyzIImen" to a relative.... and say oh "i'll show you how a relative deserves to be loved" but when you really listen to the lyrics.. you obviously know that is WAY too awkward.... to dedicate a song that way.... maybe a bad example, but it was hte first awkward example i could think of lolsthe vibe i've always gotten off this song.. is that a man is seeing a woman in a romantic light for the first time. Someone that he has known for so long but just never saw her in a romantic way, until now, where he realizes there was this wonderful woman beside him this whole time if he only opened his heart to the idea.
