Well Grohl as a massive hardon for all things Alien. His record label is Roswell I think ? ... So, it makes sense his band would be something related to it all ;) Grohl is a great song writer and lyricist (even if he doesn't think so!)

"Foo Fighters" is a reference to the "faux fighters", unexplained aircraft spotted by pilots in WW2. Foo comes from the French "faux" meaning false or fake. Now I'm not saying it was aliens... but it was aliens.
