His eyes they closed

and his last breath spoke

he had seen all to be seen

a life once full

now an empty vase

wilt the blossoms

on his early grave

walk away me boys

walk away me boys

and by morning we'll be free

wipe that golden tear

from your mother dear

and raise what's left

of the flag for me

then the rosary beads

count them 1 2 3

fell apart as they hit the floor

in a garb of black

we must pay respect

to the color we were born to mourn

walk away me boys

walk away me boys

and by morning we'll be free

wipe that golden tear

from your mother dear

and raise what's left

of the flag for me

In its place grew

an angry festered wound

full of hatered and remorse

where I pick and scratch

till the blood it matched

silent rage that now fills my lungs

for there are many ways

to kill a man they say

with bayonet, axe or sword

but son a bullet fired

from a shapeless guise

just put the shell of a Thompson gun

walk away me boy

walk away me boys

and by morning we'll be free

wipe that golden tear

from your mother dear

and raise what's left

of the flag for me

from the east out to the western shore

where many men and many more will fall

but no angel flies with me tonight

though freedom reigns on all

and curse the name for which

we slaved our days

so every men chose Kingdom Come

But sure as night turns day

it's the passion play

oh my god

what have they done

with madman's rage

well they dug our graves

but the dead rise again you fools

walk away me boy

walk away me boys

and by morning we'll be free

wipe that golden tear

from your mother dear

and raise what's left

of the flag for me

walk away me boy

walk away me boys

and by morning we'll be free

wipe that golden tear

from your mother dear

and raise what's left

of the flag for me

To all the Irish who say I'm not Irish. I have no problem with this. I'm an American descended from Ulster Scots who didn't have much of a home In Ireland. Many say I look Irish but I'm not... but I'm sure you assertive Irish know that the Celts have wandered all over the world. Don't worry I loved visiting your Emerald Isle but I won't be coming back it was clear to me once I got on that plane to Paris the past fall of 14, that your green land ain't like California.

..don't you just love the ethnic battles as seen below, above, up your arse, where ever they be... what exactly was the point? I went to the kitchen for a sandwich to find it, alas, twas not there. Children...you need potatoes in your life. Just enjoy the music alright?

Is it just me or does the comment section in nearly ever music video on youtube turn into an argument about nationality?

'Hello, I'm of Irish descent and therefore claim inalienable right to be be the only people in the world who have ever been abused, conquered, disposessd and otherwise shat upon by many other countries and races who in turn have also had the same thing done to them but actually don't deserve the right to make up songs about because they are not Irish'.Good song though.Yours, of Welsh descent* so far distant it doesn't trouble me or make me want to write songs up about it.Maybe if I lived in the US I'd be overwhelmed by longings for the valleys and seaweed based dough products.*but I do live there.

So close to St. Paddy's day and all the full Irish pretend that the potato famine didn't send my very Irish grandmother to Kentucky. They don't realize how pretentious they look.

Wars in the comments of whether people are Irish or not are freaking retarded. When some people say they are Irish they are just saying they have Irish ancestors. Unless you were born in Ireland and have Irish parents you are not Irish, you have Irish ancestors. It's the same with any other country. I'm not Irish and none of this bothers me really, I just wish people would talk about the music instead of fighting and acting stupid.

Born and raised in Alabama, USA and damn proud of it. Something else that makes me swell with pride is the blood and heritage I share with the families McCrory and Kelley. Maybe it isnt the soil I share with Ireland , but the history and heritage belong to ALL of Irish descent. Look to the stories of the "Wild Geese", and to the story of Padraig himself, then come to me saying my heart is less Irish than yours. It aint about the dirt under your feet. It's about the the pride and joy in your heart when you hear songs like "The Black Velvet Band". Just you try and take that away from me.
