Who knew god cheats when he's wrestling

I wanna keep my confessions so I keep throwin' guesses at

Him like suggestions don't spar with him pressin' on me

His lessons trying to be where my best is and I

Keep throwing lefties till my right's are right

Where I left em out of reach of the people trying to get them

Don't do handouts; NAW I hand out concessions

Sayin' I ain't got nothing while my hands clutch my treasure

A measure of a man is kindness

Why do I preach to the choir and where ever my kind is

My eyes are on the side of minus

If my lifestyle takes from the other side, I'm fine with

Threats to my climate hang in the air like primates

I wanna be caesar need a planet need a

planet to rise with

My feet on the bodies

these streets are lined with

from many one the chosen ones

not anyone can rise here

[Hook (x2)]

Put the books away we fight today

And the fires burn a brighter day

There's a balm in Gilead

There's a bomb in Gilead

[Verse 2]

I was never one to wanna throw away the laws

More the one to wanna floor debate the flaws

Offer up amendments and coordinate the cause

And keep the faith that let the Lord escape the cross

Dear Gods, protect me from those who take you literally

Pause, bless each motivation that contols me please

forgive me for every time I didn't really reflect peace

or at least provide a bit of relief to those bitterly

burnt by your followers

Working for Haliburton or toting Excaliburs

Some of them know all the words but they're unaware

of the honorarium from Livin' on a Prayer

Sincerely John and Brer, we deliver hi (high with no cannibus)

P.S. we try to stay humble but we hope that you're a fan of us

If not we can adjust

pps my god, why have you abandoned us?

[Hook (x4)]

Put the books away we fight today

And the fires burns a brighter as day

There's a balm in Gilead

There's a bomb in Gilead

[Verse 3]

I try to walk the path of an ancient hemophiliac

Basilisk lizard while I'm standing on a lilypad

Retelling stories that are older than the iIlead

There is a balm, there is a bomb in Gilead

put a balm to the side and sides are healed

Put a bomb to the side insides are revealed

all this god talk rings hollow like a glockenspiel

No time for what might not be real

So whatever your tradition never stop wrestling

With precedent and privilege, never stop wrestling

With flags and divinity never stop wrestling

With love for your enemy never stop wrestling

With faith in community never stop wrestling

With every god you worship never stop wrestling

Trying to be perfect but love you are and divine

you true prupose

[Hook (x8)]

Put the books away we fight today

And the fires burns a brighter day

There's a balm in Gilead

There's a balm in Gilead

i thought it said there's a bombing in the air, not a bomb in Gilead. Anyone else?

Is this song trying to say that Israel can't be trusted and that its a ticking time bomb for like WW3/Nuclear war even though they claim they are peace keepers like the UN? Cool song but i think Israel could be compared to like religion and other political issues which you can't really talk about unless you want a hair dryer debate.

The whole point is that it could be either: it's a play on Jeremiah 8:22.

They have to be stephen king The Dark Tower fans gilead is a major place in the storyline and I've noticed several other things from there songs like We Are Winning at 1:45 "roses plucked from empty lots and sidewalk cracks". In the 7 book Series by stephen king Which adds up to at least 5000 pages a good hundred pages is dedicated to a rose in a empty lot. And on rhythm method at 2:36 "Blast of at castle rock and blast off like an astronaut". Castle rock is a town in many stephen king novels.

balm of gilead is a term in the bible. The word play between balm and bomb is intentional, you know, with all the fighting happening in that area.

This is amazing!! I love the Flobots to death but I didn't even hear that they released a new album until last week and just today, I got a chance to listen to it. Then, I learned that it came out last August and am still wondering how I haven't caught wind of this until now. This thing is a masterpiece!

You guys should probably invest in a better monitor, or a better cable. Your resolution must be too low to see that it is indeed burns, not bums. Try highlighting it, you'll see that you can highlight half of the 'm'.

Keep up the cause! Flobots and regular people like them is what puts my faith back in America and my own country Canada. Peace and God bless.

It's also a line from Edgar Allan Poe's "The Raven." (yeah he was referencing the Bible) and THAT particular reference has a certain fame of it's own.

Not the right lyrics. It's supposed to be "balm", from a biblical phrase.

In fact, the lyric is “There’s a balm in Gilead.” This is a common biblical phrase, first used to describe the cargo carried by the caravan who bought Joseph as a slave from his brothers. A popular theological interpretation for the verses that mention the Balm is that it’s a metaphor for teachers, although a balm can also literally be a substance meant to heal brought to you by google.

Cool. I think 'balm' is right actualy but it does sound a lot more like 'flames' instead of 'days'. i've got the lyric book you get with the 'fight with tools' album and a lot of those lyrics are wrong. It doesnt really matter though i feel like an idiot for bringing this up.

Cool. Are you sure it says balm and not bomb though?? And i dont think 'fires burn a brighter day' is right i think it says 'fires burn with brighter flames' like bitterdeists comment says. Just a suggestion, i could be wrong.
