Formed in 1967 by guitarist Peter Green, Fleetwood Mac's original line-up included drummer Mick Fleetwood and bassist John McVie. All three were veterans of John Mayall's Bluesbreakers. With guitarist/vocalist Jeremy Spencer they released their self-titled debut album in early 1968. With the addition of a third guitarist, Danny Kirwan, the band recorded a series of acclaimed albums, including English Rose, Mr. Wonderful and Then Play On, scoring hits with such singles as "Albatross" and "Black Magic Woman" before Green departed in mid-1970.

For Kiln House (1970), the group recruited singer Christine Perfect (later McVie), formerly of Chicken Shack. Shortly afterward Spencer left the group to be replaced by American guitarist/vocalist Bob Welch. It was this line-up - Fleetwood, McVie, Perfect, Kirwan, Welch - that recorded Future Games in 1971. A greatest hits package followed and, in March of 1972, the group released Bare Trees

@ James Prichard: Not interested in Peter Green? Weird, that's weird!

Blues fan

One of Danny's best contributions to Fleetwood Mac in my opinion is his early version of "Jigsaw Puzzle Blues" which was the B-side of Albatross when it first came out in 1968. Very different from this, a different mood entirely. But majestic, and played with great authority.

A Classic & Beautiful Song My All Time Favorite Fleetwood Mac Song !!!!

peter gave danny credit for ''albatross'', saying ' it doesn't exist without danny' . and ''underway'' by peter and ''my dream'' by danny are 2 more great instrumentals, although peter mentions danny's part for ''underway '' also in an interview with peter about 10 years ago. peter wanted to give away his own money and also the band's money, but he should have cherished the chance to showcase danny instead. to see danny again would be monumental, peter i'm not interested.

This is Danny Kirwan's "Albatross". If you don't know that song, then you're not a true fan of FM. When Peter Green left FM, Danny Kirwan was a lost soul. Yet until 8/72 he was sane enough to write some brilliant songs.

Danny Kirwin was an unbelievably talented guitarist, and Mick Fleetwood knew it. Unfortunately, Danny and Bob had a personality clash and Mick says in his biography that Danny was "never really suited to the rigors of our business". Danny was stressed out by the constant touring and what finally convinced Mick to ask him to leave was the night Danny bashed his guitar to pieces in the bathroom before a performance and screamed "I'm not going on!"

Robbie Williams was a genius, coming up with that intro in Millenium. Robbie Williams - Millennium with lyrics on screen. Actually, ELO released Momma on ELO 2, 10 months after this. Electric Light Orchestra - Momma (with Lyrics)

Danny Kirwan is a very overlooked musician and songwriter. This FM-band deserved WAY more credit! Some songs between '' Then Play On" and "Bare Trees" belong to one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.

If you like this Kirwan composition, give a listen to the song Earl Gray, off the Kiln House LP.

duff man

Anyone paying attention knows this is a Kirwan composition. Wish he and Peter G had chosen to play longer and write more together. This was my favorite band from its origin thru Bare Trees.

I first heard this piece when I was at AIT School, Ft. Belvoir VA and it is my FAVORITE Fleetwood Mac composition. It has a really Wonderful, indescribable Dreamy aspect to it that says much about the compositional talent of Danny Kirwan and the Band's musical abilities. GREAT MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!

danny would demo his songs ,writing all guitar parts ,and bring them to the band complete, to augment. he is, as nearly everyone here claims, magical, loving , and heartwarming, danny is the sweetest soul in music . his vocal talents and his musical talents are second to none .
