I have a feeling that this is the actual version of the song that Stevie Nicks wanted on Rumours. There is a long one like this with a completely different arrangement and vocals, but this one captures more of the mood and atmosphere surrounding the meaning...

This recording is from early 1976.

Answer to Dave, it was not included because Mick, John and Christine did not think it was any good and would not sell. It was the B side of Rinhanna, another one the was not going to go anywhere. But Stevie proved them wrong. I know this because I was there. Stevie told me " I wrote 'Silver Spring' with you in mind Cathy" in refence to mine and Lindsey's love affair in 1974 when she had moved out and in with a guy in Santa Monica. When Stevie found out, she moved back in. Stevie and I became fast friends. So there.

This version is missing the final lines of the chorus from the official released version, which I think are the most powerful lines of the song: "I'll follow you down til' the sound of my voice will haunt you, You'll never get away from the sound of the woman that loves you."

I love her vocal on this version, not much input from Lindsey, and no back-up vocals. Still, this version is haunting.

I have NEVER before known a singer/songwriter that could put true raw emotion to words, & subsequently, song! As Lindsay once described her....ETHEREAL~

I really love you mom. I always think of you on some songs, this reminds me of riding in the back of your old chrysler lebaron.

Jeremy Doe - She said so on Storytellers, only even more stripped down than this version.

I had this version on a bootleg tape in the early 90's, but lost it...So very glad to hear it again after all these years. A truly inspired vocal track!

This is the most emotional version of this incredibly heartbreaking song - it is, by far, heart wrenching to hear. Lindsay probably couldn't take hearing it at the time - so raw and so real - come on over Stevie - I'll take care of you.
