This is how it originally sounded on the vinyl release of Tusk in 1979. It was changed for the cd release...

I always liked this version better than the one they put on the CD. It just sounds cleaner.

The CD release has added backing vocals and percussion and more bass... if you hear it by itself, it sounds like a totally different song... there was a master reel that surfaced containing this mix (the final vinyl mix)... also some tapes surfaced that had this mix and the stripped down mix that they tacked over this one for the CD release... still not sure why they did that...

wow, i did the exact same thing with my stereo balance when this album came out. i was about 2 years older than you though, age 14. you gotta listen to "honey hi" doing the stereo balance thing to really hear how the vocals are mixed so wonderfully.

Lindsay Buckingham is one of the greatest songwriters of the entire pop rock era. His work on Tusk is unparralleled pure genius. SOme of the greatest songs in recorded history.

I wore out two copies of this album on vinyl. The CD came out and I bought it and I bitched mightily at the changes, this song in particular. So nice to hear what we originally heard back in 1979 when the album was first released. Thanks for posting this.

It's still the ultimate version to my ears. An incredible song that really speaks to me. Simple and sparse. With an incredible beautiful cacaphonic ending. Indie popfolk avant-la-lettre: Cave Singers, Decemberists, Elliott Brood, maybe even Besnard Lakes, are some contemporary bands that come to mind... Lindsey Buckingham is still relevant, as is this song. Beautiful.
