From one of my favorite bands, this was the sixth track song on their 1975 self-titled album. This is known as the album that helped push "Rumours" to the commecial heights that is reached and as the first album that featured Stevie Nicks as a major vocalist....I do not own this by the way....I mean, technically I bought the album so that's mine but I don't own the rights to the song....that's all WMG.

[Written by Stevie Nicks]

[Lyrics]

Do you always trust your first initial feeling?

Special knowledge, holds true, bears believing

I turned around and the water was closing all around,

Like a glove, like the love that has finally, finally found me

And I knew, in the crystaline knowledge of you

Drove me through the mountains,

Through the crystal like a clearwater fountain

Drove me like a magnet

To the sea, to the sea, to the sea yeah

How the faces of love change, turning the pages,

And I have changed, oh but you, you remain ageless

I turned around and the water was closing all around

Like a glove, like the love, that has finally, finally found me

And I knew in the crystaline knowledge of you

Drove me through the mountains,

Through the crystal like a clearwater fountain

Drove me like a magnet

To the sea, to the sea, to the sea yeah,

To the sea yeah

I was 16 years old..those in my age group-perhaps can still remember--the strength of the emotions/feelings/urgings/ that music like this engendered in our souls-like the pull of the moon on the tides of our souls--I remember smiling/laughing/crying--all to this song!!!how can one song make you want to laugh and cry???--wow..memories...

One of the things I love best about the film Practical Magic, is the use of this song.

This song is just beautiful, and I give FM credit for re-recording it for their first LP with Buckingham-Nicks. Christine's vocals blended beautifully on the three part harmonies. My only issue was that Stevie's third LP track (she rarely got more, and never had more songs than Chris or Lindsey) was sung by Lindsey. The song turned out wonderfully, and Nicks got songwriting credit/royalties, but was left with only two lead vocals on Fleetwood Mac. I would have preferred the band put Blue Letter (not even composed by a band member) on a B-side and added another Nicks track (Candlebright, Sorcerer) in its place to balance things out. Rumours did a better job with aspect, but even then, Nicks is the sole lead singer on just two tracks (sharing her I Don't Want To Know with LB throughout).

As a guy,it is very rare for me to prefer a male's voice over women's when the band is gender mixed, but I think Lindsey was the best singer of the band, and Stevie did the right thing in giving him the leads on this tune. I'm not saying that Stevie and Christine were not good. They were incredibly mellow, but I prefer Lindsay's voice.

It's great of course but I think Buckingham-Nicks is better, & this is unusual because I only heard the original many years later. Now when is that LP gonna get a proper CD release?

While I love the production on this version, I'd have to say the original version on "Buckingham Nicks" has so much more feeling. Lindsey's vocal and Stevie's harmony just cry out and grab you. God, I wish they would put Buckingham Nicks out on CD. While it's easy enough to find bootlegs on CD and online, it's not the same. Hey, if you look hard enough you can even find pristine needledrops recorded to 48k FLAC. Doesn't that show you there is enough interest in such an excellent album to finally get it out on CD, even after all these years.

This was playing on the jukebox in the college snackbar in February 1978 when my sweetheart (who has been my wife since June 1982) told me that she loved me for the first time.

My favourite song by Buckingham Nicks, but, I must admit I like a little better with Stevie singing the lead. Practical Magic was sublime xo

Sept 4th, 1976: FM's 'White Album' peaks @ #1 on the Billboard chart just over a year after it's release in July 1975. This is my favorite version of this song. Stevie's harmonies always got me on this version. What is your favorite version of 'Crystal'?
