Such classifications are intellectually lazy, but more prominently, pointless. Calling it pop or rap doesn't enlighten anyone on any aspect of the music whatsoever, except to dillute it with incommensurable associations. Protip, your bug-collector/cookie-cutter classifications are haughty and useless.

You *think* this is pop music, it isn't actually, because it's not so eclectic as to borrow elements from every genre. Also, they're not very popular. Again, this is your opinion. Also, you clearly haven't heard every song by Fleet Foxes, or you'd know they have several purely instrumental recordings. Songs like Bitter Dancer and The Plains are entirely void of repeat choruses. Really, I don't see (or hear) how they are pop. Anyone who thinks as much is an idiot.

I think you are wrong. Look at AC/DC or hell, even Budgie or Guns N' Roses. All of their biggest songs have predictable, repeat choruses. All of them, name me one song that doesn't. I'm not saying Fleet Foxes are rock, but they are certainly not following the format of Pop music today. I don't have a limited understanding of music, because I have been listening to it for all of my 22 years on earth.
