Living in a small southern town, with so much going on in the world at that time (most of it on the west coast)...it did sort of make one feel at least a little connected. So, in that regard, it was indeed kinda awesome. I have no idea what ever became of any of those guys since then however. To them, I was just another kid walking by their practice garage (if they even noticed at all) As your your analogy of the 60's, .Yes sir, you sure got that right...LOL!!! Thanks for the message.

That must have been awesome being able to hear them practicing. And if you can't remember meeting any of them, not to worry. You know what they say about the 60's, if you remember it you weren't really there!! L.O.L.

Wondering whatever happened to these guys. I remember in my youth walking down Smith street and hearing these guys practice in one of their garages. I also remember they carried their equipment around in a blue trailer with their 5x5 band name on it. Lived in the same small town and never met a one of them...that I remember anyway.

Seems like I remember seeing this 45 on the wall at Robin Hood Bryan's studio in Tyler, Texas. Probably the most notable vinyl on the wall was ZZ Top's La Grange album. Lot's of bands in that region were familiar with it and recorded there including The Five Americans (Western Union, Zip Code) John Fred and his Playboy Band (Judy in Disguise) and others. I had this version of Fire with the pink label as well as Apple Cider. I loved 'em both and the incredibly hot pace and hooks in Apple Cid

Wow! I turned 3 in 1969, I had a Close-n-play record player. I bought a 10 pack of the previous year's 45's for $1 at Woolworths. This one was in there and it put me "on course" for the rest of my life! I bet I listened to this 10,000 times!! I hadn't heard this version in many years although that pink labeled 45 is still at my mom's house on the East coast!

Amazing cover. Psychedelic rock at it's finest! And by the way, the name of the state is spelled "Arkansas" not "Arkansaw." But otherwise, one of the greatest covers I've ever heard.

This was released on PYE in the UK in about November 1968, I bought it and played it to death doing discos. Used to clear the floor in some places, and be successful in others. Loved the energy - just fabulous.

@Waynescott1 NOPE! It's the Model Eleven! No tuner on this one. I have the BIG Model 20 Plus! The three piece floor console. They're really great phonographs!

Fabulous post! I always wondered if this outstanding classic would be posted on YT. Five by Five were recording for Paula Records during 1967-1970. The hit single of "Fire" was included in 5x5's lone album, "Next Exit". Ronnie,Tim, Larry, Bill & Doug surely are at their best here. (You should hear their terrific version of Love's "7 And 7 Is".)
