"Google and many sources will tell you that this is a traditional shape-shifting song that originates from Scotland and is traditionally sung as part of a Beltane love chase. But I recently discovered that it was in fact written by Caitlin Matthews in 1978. The oral tradition working its magic! A wonderful song." - By Damh The Bard.

However, wherever it came from it is timeless. I love it!

It could not have been written in 1979; the entire song appears in "Mastering Witchcraft" which was published in 1970. It very closely resembles the song Isobel Gowdie told her inquisitors that she used to change shape in 1662. I don't know how ancient it is, but it's certainly much older than 1978.
