Today is high school graduation day for my second oldest. Where has the time gone? I want to hold on to my kiddos, but know I must let go. God has a plan much grander than mine for Zachary. Finally the grip of winter has been broken and spring is upon us. And with spring comes changes. New life is all around us – almost as a reminder that God will answer our prayers, that our hopes will be granted if we just remain faithful. But for those parents who have formed special bonds with their children over the years, that statement is truly just a joke. For those of you who know my situation, I would give anything to have my sons come home, not leave. But this message is not for me, but for those of you who may be saying goodbye to a child who is moving on to the next stage of their life. Do not worry, for if you have raised them with love and faith, they may leave your house in person but they will always have a home there and will always come back home to you. At least that is how it has been for my parents and I hope that is how it will be for you as well.Today’s encouraging verses include one for those facing a child graduating and one for those facing an engagement/wedding….Proverbs 22:6, “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.”Ephesians 5:31, “ Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” And two verses to give to your child who is flying off on their own from 1Timothy 4:12, “Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.”And Joshua 1:9, “Be strong and courageous. I am sitting here deployed to the middle east for the 4th time and was listening to this song thinking about my girls when I saw your comment. As a parent I've realized how much we want for our children. My mother has been my biggest fan for the last 8 years in, from marriage issues to being blown off my feet in Iraq, to losing a child, she's always been there. She still sends WAY to many cards and boxes! I take her for granted sometimes, but she is the reason I'm here. Keep being a great mom:)
