Shuyin is the actual person from zanarkand before the war between bevelle and zanarkand tidus is the fayths reincarnation of shuyin. Which is why they look so similar. Both of them were guardians protecting their summoners. Shuyin sought out vegnagun to prevent lenne from defeating the original sin. Whilst Tidus a dream was a guardian to Yuna.
