I just realized the vocal rhythm of this song's verses is almost the same as the vocal rhythm of the verses of "I'll Never Be Your Maggie May" by Suzanne Vega, which came out about three years earlier. I'm not saying they stole the chords or melody or lyrics, but the way the rhythm is structured over the verse is near-identical.
