'The Ten Commandments" comes from the second album released by Figgy Duff. It was released on vinyl in 1982 and on cd in 1997. Figgy Duff was a Canadian folk-rock band from Newfoundland. They were formed in 1976 by Noel Dinn and travelled across Newfoundland, learning traditional songs.

Figgy Duff continued touring the next thirteen years and released three studio albums. The line-up changed several times, but the core of Dinn and Pamela Morgan stayed the same. Dinn died of cancer in 1993 and Morgan disbanded Figgy Duff soon after. She revived the group for a 25th anniversary album and concert. They have dedicated fans to this day.

ENJOY!

LYRICS as performed by Figgy Duff - as best as I can make out and with help from several lyric sites:

Come and I will sing you,

What will you sing me?

I will sing you one, o

What will the one be?

One, the one lived all alone

Forever more shall be

Come and I will sing you

What will you sing me?

I will sing you two, o

What will the two be?

Two of them were lily-white babes clothed all in green, o

And one, the one lived all alone

Forever more shall be

Come and I will sing you

What will you sing me?

I will sing you three, o

What will the three be?

Three of them were drivers,

Two of them were lily-white babes clothed all in green, o

And one, the one lived all alone

Forever more shall be

Come and I will sing you

What will you sing me?

I will sing you four, o

What will the four be?

Four, the Gospel creatures,

Three of them were drivers,

Two of them were lily-white babes clothed all in green, o

And one, the one lived all alone

Forever more shall be

Come and I will sing

What will you sing me?

I will sing you five, o

What will the five be?

Five, the Flem boys under the bush,

Four, the Gospel creatures,

Three of them were drivers,

Two of them were lily-white babes clothed all in green, o

And one, the one lived all alone

Forever more shall be

Come and I will sing you

What will you sing me?

I will sing you six, o

What will the six be?

Six, the six bowl wager

Five, the Flem boys under the bush,

Four, the Gospel creatures,

Three of them were drivers,

Two of them were lily-white babes clothed all in green, o

And one, the one lived all alone

Forever more shall be

Come and I will sing you

What will you sing me?

I will sing you seven, o

What will the seven be?

Seven, the seven stars under the sky,

Six, the six bowl wager,

Five, the Flem boys under the bush,

Four, the Gospel creatures,

Three of them were drivers,

Two of them were lily-white babes clothed all in green, o

And one, the one lived all alone

Forever more shall be

Come and I will sing you

What will you sing me?

I will sing you eight, o

What will the eight be?

Eight, the Gabriel angels,

Seven the seven stars under the sky,

Six, the six bowl wager,

Five, the Flem boys under the bush,

Four, the Gospel creatures,

Three of them were drivers,

Two of them were lily-white babes clothed all in green, o

And one, the one lived all alone

Forever more shall be

Come and I will sing you

What will you sing me?

I will sing you nine, o

What will the nine be?

Nine, the bright-eyed shiners,

Eight, the Gabriel angels,

Seven, the seven stars under the sky,

Six, the six bowl wager,

Five, the Flem boys under the bush,

Four, the Gospel creatures,

Three of them were drivers,

Two of them were lily-white babes clothed all in green,o

And one, the one lived all alone

Forever more shall be

Come and I will sing you

What will you sing me?

I will sing you ten, o

What will the ten be?

Ten, the ten commandments

Nine, the bright-eyed shiners,

Eight, the Gabriel angels,

Seven, the seven stars under the sky,

Six, the six bowl wager,

Five, the Flem boys under the bush,

Four, the Gospel creatures,

Three of them were drivers,

Two of them were lily-white babes clothed all in green, o

And one, the one lived all alone

Forever more shall be

I'm sorry. It's the best I found. I appreciate your comment and will keep an eye out of another version. I have music packed in 3 states, so I am slowly getting it to my home. If you have a certain group or genre, you can type it into "Search Channel" on my home page. I have lots of Figgy Duff to put up...when I find it. You can even type instruments if you have a favorite, countries, singers. Have fun it you try it. My best, Moppet

@gdgest I somehow missed your comment. I certainly appreciate your information and it adds a lot to the history of the song. You are always welcome to add your knowledge and comments. You are the 'professor' for my traditional songs and I am happy to have you on board! Thank you so much, Barb

This is a variant of an early 19th century English traditional cumulative song with a religious theme published in English Country Songs by Lucy E. Broadwood and J. A. Fuller Maitland (London: The Leadenhall Press, 1893). Thanks for sharing. :-)
