Hank did not record the song until the Mother's Best show in 1951, Roy Acuff recorded the song in 1945 him and Fred Rose were partners in Acuff -Rose before and after Hank success, Gene Vincent recorded it in 1958 and Ferin around that same time frame. many others release it on album (such as Conway Twitty) until Willie Nelson release it and it became his theme song in 1975

Hey A10DTW, This song was writen by Fred Rose for Roy Acuff in 1944 and Roy didn't want it so he pitched it too Hank Williams and he recorded it in 1946 and that is the original. LHW

I HAVE TO AGREE, FERLIN'S VERSION OF THIS CLASSIC IS BY FAR THE VERY BEST VERSION, BAR NONE. I WAS HEARTSICK WHEN WILLIE CAME OUT WITH A VERSION OF HIS OWN. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE UPLOAD!

Written in 1945 by Fred Rose, first recorded by Roy Acuff, and later by Hank Williams, but Ferlin's version is the best!

I know this is an old song first recorded by, I think, Roy Acuff but as far as I am concerned, Ferlin's version is by far the most beautiful version out there.
