hmm so i always believed this song was about my queen, edie sedgwick. just judging from the lyrical content on top of the oft-repeated hearsay that lou had wrote it about her after their brief "relationship." however, after beginning to read "please kill me: the uncensored oral history of punk" by legs mcneil & gillian mccain i found out that john cale claims lou actually wrote "femme fatale" over nico (as well as "i'll be your mirror")!!! not saying i necessarily believe this, just another spin on an old rumor i thought maybe not everyone had heard & might find interesting! i guess only lou could have told us the real truth, not like he would've tho, but he certainly isn't going to be doing so now…

As I recall her parents died when she was a teen, then her brother died a year later leaving her alone in life. Turning to heroin is understandable, although wrong in my opinion. School me if I'm wrong. Sad to this day for Edie.

Seems at first light and almost silly but as you listen you eventually realize it's haunting as it makes you think of the human condition. The music, Nico's voice, and the German English words have a sarcastic quality that are somewhat spellbinding.
