The frost is on the applesThe moon is shining brightBy starlight you'll love meOn this secret nightOn this secretNightYeahOhYeahMake a soundSo I know where you areShake the branchesOf your favorite treeWatch it, 'causeThe full moon is brightWe must conceal ourselvesFrom all who'd seeAnd reveal ourselvesUnder theThe apple treesYeahOhYeahWe run up to the hillTell everyone goodnightMy tent awaits up therePitched under starlightPitched under starLightYeahOhYeahMake a soundSo I know where you areShake the branchesOf your favorite treeWatch it, 'causeThe full moon is brightWe must conceal ourselvesFrom all who'd seeAnd reveal ourselvesUnder theThe apple treesYeahOhOhYeahIt's beauty though it's fleetingAutumn at it's peakYour love and your sighsBeneath the apple treesBeneath the appleTreesTreesThe frost is on the applesThe moon is shining brightBy starlight you'll love meOn this secret nightOn this secretNight

“Apple Trees” is a genuine folk classic of a very simple nature but still featuring the classic, dark, nocturnal, mysticism that was to become a trademark of Dawn McCarthy’s best work. The siren-like simplicity of her voice and guitar work really should be heard, and the autumnal imagery of two lovers meeting under apple trees during the first autumn frost is perfectly carried out.
