Farther Along - Willie Nelson

The lyrics to the song were written in 1911 by Rev. W. A. Fletcher, an itinerant preacher, while he was travelling to the Indian Territories by train. Fletcher was feeling depressed because his wife was expecting their first-born child in a few weeks and he wouldn't be present for the occasion. He felt that his priorities were with his ministry in the Indian Territories and wrote the lyrics to reflect his frame of mind at the time. Sitting next to him on the train was J. R. Baxter, a gospel music promoter who was quite taken with the lyrics that Fletcher was writing and offered him $2.00 for them. Mr. Baxter subsequently had them put to music and the song has been quite popular in the gospel music arena ever since.

The song deals with a Christian's dismay at the apparent prosperity of the wicked, when contrasted with the suffering of the righteous. The repeated theme is that, in Heaven, the truth will be revealed.

Try as I do I have a hard time understanding why so many Christians are intolerant and judgmental. I want to like them and most of them I do but many make it so hard. I am an Atheist and I find great comfort in music like this because comfort is what it offers so well. How anyone gets from here to bashing political leaders is beyond my comprehension. I have only one commandment. That is "Be responsible". Everything else is a sub-category.....Your golden rule falls short only because I probably like things done unto me that might not appeal to others and visa versa. So be kind, thoughtful and considerate. Teach tolerance and enjoy the music.....gary.....

Why or why the politics? Call it further behind. Those two politicians all but destroyed the hard working middle class. There is enough all, when will they learn, you don't have to sacrifice one for the other. Opportunity and Jesus is all we need.

Good performance of great hymn, ruined by poses with the most incompetent President and the most unChristian and most dangerous one-- raised Marxists and Muslim and never fell far from the tree.

Love this song...not jumping on the political bandwagon here. I let my vote speak for me and I know that God will reward the just and punish the unjust. Looked this song up because I love the lyrics to it and my heart and soul needed to hear these wonderful words. Lost my son to leukemia and these promises keep me reminded that farther along it will all make sense and we'll be together again.

Why so much hate. Don't give in the devil talk for you 'll be accounted for. One day we will understand. Praise Jesus who died and said on the cross 'Father, forgive them for they do not know what they are doing'.

Such a beautiful old Gospel song! It amazes me to see trolls and haters in the comments. I guess farther along, I'll understand why.

Do my eyes deceive me or at 1:31 is Willie standing with the most anti-American SOB ever born? I couldn't stand to be in the same room with that lowlife bastard, much less have him touch me.

We wil "ALL" know and understand. Jesus Christ came to SAVE THE WORLD! - NOT CONDEMN IT! John 3:17, 12:47 Jesus Christ saved ALL not just some! There will not be one sheep left out, He will search until he finds it and bring it home rejoicing!
