I heard this song as a teen. and ask a few people who sang the song, they did not know. but only today, was I able to put my years of humming and singing very few words, I smile, I found Murray Mclauchlan in Farmer Song, thank you.

Both sides of my family homesteaded Alberta. "Moping a face like a shoe" immediately made me think of my uncles the very first time I heard it back in 1972. Thanks for the memories.

We've worked the fields in Alberta and orchards in the Okanagan, it's valuable work which is constantly denigrated. If the food doesn't get picked nobody gets to eat. Who's more valuable the farm worker or the banker who sits on his ass and plays with numbers which mostly wreck your life and do nothing for your bottom line. I'll side with the worker every time.

Do you know why farmers are so good at what they do? Because they're always outstanding in their fields! Great song!

Yup! My grand dad was a farmer and he used to own a combine. Whenever I hear that song I think of him and the privilege I had as a kid to learn honest work at his side. I play it on guitar... even made a half decent translation to French.
