Just one of the GREAT S&G songs. They are one of THE most un-heralded artists of the great 60s/70s era. Of course Paul SImon wrote & did great material well past the 70s, but the 60s/70s stuff was so good. No need to tell you most of "today's music sux" because you wouldn't be here listening to this if you had a lot of current stuff that was great.

The quarter note triplets just drive the chorus. He was such a great composer!

Back in High School we had to take a literature class. We had to read poetry, but one of the poets the teacher included was Paul Simon. Very enlightened lady. I especially liked her comparison of the original Victorian poem "Richard Cory" with Paul's take. The original is from the viewpoint of one of Cory's friends who are shocked by Cory's suicide. Paul's version is from the viewpoint of one of Cory's downtrodden factory workers who wishes he could be Richard Cory (including the suicide.) It's apparent Paul read a lot of poetry and can well be called a poet in his own right.

I read a while back an interview from Paul (1972?)  that this song became "poisoned in my mind" because of this single mix, and that he no longer could listen to it. I think it's a great song, no matter what. Thanks for uploading this version!

that doesn't quite make sense: the verse before the dialogue is "...prior to this lifetime, i surely was a tailor--look at me..." how could he have been a tailor in another lifetime as a nod to donovan leitch? more like bad bloggin misinformation. i hope paul reads this so he can tell us what he really meant 46 ago.

I just spent my evening learning to play and sing this. Great song, just one of many from these guys. I grew up with their music and it really defines my childhood. What a gift they've given me.

I just got this song for my MP-3 and love it for my workouts at the gym or just sitting looking out off the balcony. I guess getting old is mandatory but growing old is optional. the 60's and 70's were some of my favorite times.

Because playing instruments and harmonizing are considered passe- creating sounds on a laptop and selling CDs out of the trunk of a car are considered "art" nowadays...
