Curious that out of all the photos depicting the band members, the one missing is that of the actual singer on this track, Judy Dyble

Richard Thompson spoke recently about his disappointment when this song wasn't a hit, and how the experience changed him: "I was so mortified that our first single with Fairport [1968's "If (Stomp)"/"If I Had a Ribbon Bow"] wasn't a hit. I mean, I had invested so much in believing in this song, and in believing that it was going to be a successful record, that when it wasn't I thought 'never again.'" (The Quietus)

I've been going to Fairport's Cropredy Convention for seven years now, and I only just discovered this track in my old vinyl collection. I'm the proud owner of a good condition copy of 'The house that Track built', an apparently rare LP with tracks by Hendrix, The Who, Arthur Brown, Thunderclap Newman etc!

I've got this on a "Rare Tracks" tape that was probably purchased in the mid 70's. It's the only song I like on it!

The lady in the photos is Sandy Denny, not the singer here who is Judy Dyble.

I feel the same way as you do. If you like this song, check out the Fairport's fab debut album reissued on cd with some extra tracks as well as their BBC recordings on a box set. I like all of their early stuff with both Judy and Sandy and some of their 70s stuff too. The music of this era (circa '67) is priceless.

This awesome band's 1st single from 1967!and featuring the reknowned Judy Dyble! This song wasn't on their debut album. The b-side "If (Stomp)" was. This song is on the fab cd reissue of the 1st album. The BBC Sessions version is good, too. he early Farport, both on studio recordings & those recordings from the BBC are some of the best British music of the late 1960s.I love early Fairport. They were soooo good!!!
