This one is really for myself. "Debris", a song written by Ronnie Lane, for his father, from the 1972 Faces album, "A Nod's As Good As A Wink" (to a blind horse). This has been a long time favourite of mine, and now that I'm a little older and wiser, seems even more significant. Clip show for fun, mainly scenes of London with a few additions. I hope you like it.

I left you on the debrisAt the Sunday morning marketYou were sorting through the odds and endsYou was looking for a bargainI heard your footsteps at the front doorAnd that old familiar love song'Cause you knew you'd find me waiting thereAt the top of the stairsI went there and backJust to see how far it wasAnd you, you tried to tell meBut I had to learn for myselfThere's more trouble at the depotWith the general workers unionAnd you said, "They'll never change a thingWell, they won't fight and they're not working"Oh, you was my heroHow you are my good friendI've been there and backAnd I know how far it isBut I left you on the debrisNow we both know you got no moneyAnd I wonder what you would have doneWithout me hanging around...

Such a great " English" song. Also check out The Jam's " English Rose". It's another great "English " sound.

With my utmost respect and although some will not agree, there is only one decent singer to collect the splendid relief that left Ronnie Lane and this is certainly Mick Hucknall, with its versatility and elegance is able to keep a distance and respect allow you to evoke deep charisma this wonderful time which unfortunately has been buried for so much and so much rot called the saddest music today. By the way, the video is fantastic. Thanks for sharing.

Fantastic video. I reckon I got most of the cultural reference points from the old totter, to the Kent (or maybe Hants) hoppers and even old Bullseye in the last shot. Most of that London is gone but just for a moment I feel a connection with some of my own ones from my youth. Thanks Mate.
